Need Dissection Kits (used, unwanted) Dodated to Red Cross in Chapala [Please]

The Red Cross in Chapala is in need of at least 20 more "suture kits" (used dissecion kits). They currently have 6 (3 are well worn). They need to replace the old ones, and also having more sets will mean having to run the autoclave less frequently.

I know many students never use them again after 1st semester, and donating them would be greatly appriciated.

If anyone would ask around and collect any donated sets (kits), then let me know. I can meet near the school to collect them.

Outstanding debts

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this or not, but I had a question about paying off previous student loan debts which I have acquired before I attend medical school. I have about $30k-40k from my previous school. Will graduating from medical school and becoming a physician in Mexico give me a sufficient enough salary to pay off my previous loans within a reasonable amount of time (accrued interest included), or can I expect to be in debt for a long time?

ETA: I'm not really planning to go to UAG, but another school which is much less expensive, which is why I wasn't sure where to post since there's no Mexico school general forum.

PLEASE sign the link below for the petition "ECFMG CERTIFIED U.S. CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS BE ALLOWED TO WORK AS PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS" to be sent to our Federal Government. I found this petition already created through the website "WE THE PEOPLE, YOUR VOICE IN OUR GOVERNMENT." The idea is brilliant and is now something I am very passionate about. As a foreign medical graduate myself from the Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara, although being a US citizen, it is VERY VERY difficult to get US residency positions despite passing the SAME US medical licensing board exams that American Grads take. This might be an alternative route for many that are in "limbo" and have medical school loans to pay while still being able to practice something we love...medicine. With the Affordable Healthcare Reform, there is going to be an EVEN LARGER SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS ETC.... This might be our only "shoe in." Review of UAG

Hey guys!

I just wanted an honest review of UAG from someone who goes there right now. I really just would like to know about the classes and the professors. How are the classes scheduled? Do you have weekends off, or does school go from Monday to Saturday? How are the teachers? I mean besides the whole language barrier, are they approachable? Do they come to class on time or do you have to wait for hours until they show up?


FYI-I'm asking these questions because I am looking to transfer and UAG is at the top of my list. I would just like to know this stuff because I don't want to go from one WAY below-average school to another....

Prospective UAG applicant here. I have research, volunteering, and shadowing experience with LORs from each. 2.9 GPA, taking the MCAT soon, hope to matriculate in January 2014.

During my junior year in college I was caught shoplifting from the on-campus convenience store. It was a stupid mistake and I took full responsibility for my actions. I was charged with a shoplifting misdemeanor, but the judge lowered it to a noise infraction so my criminal record is clean. It may not even appear on my background check (didn't come up when I applied for SENTRI). I plan on disclosing this and being completely honest with my application to UAG about this.

Could this possibly keep me out? Any protips on how to go about this?

Level of Spanish needed?

I am applying for Fall 2013 and I have never taken a Spanish class and I do not speak Spanish at all.

I am currently completing levels 1 through 5 of Rosetta Stone Latin American Spanish.

One of the big reasons I am interested in this school is the thought of becoming bilingual.

Are there any other students who have been successful with a limited background in Spanish?

I can't seem to find a specific deadline to apply. I planned to apply for the semester starting in August 2013, and I already graduated and I am taking the MCAT in May 11. Supposing that by this time I have already sent everything out and am only waiting for my MCAT results, am I still in time for starting in August?

Academic Affairs office has moved (ECFMG/NY office)

Just to let everyone know that as of today April 9th the Academic Affairs office has been integrated into the International Office - so it's finally become a one-stop shop for our program. This is the office that was previously under the stairs in the corner of the same main building. They are tasked with dealing with all ECFMG issues, getting all your diplomas out to you from the proper university channels, and connecting you with the NY pre-internship programs.

I am unsure if they have changed phone numbers as a result - if you find out, please let me know through here.

Research Opportunities at UAG

Hello,

I think this question was asked before but a few years ago (2005, 2007), so I was wondering... Are there any research opportunities at UAG? Do students have the chance to do clinical research with profesors or memebers of the Guadalajara medical community? Thanks in advance for your input! :)
